Simon Goode
My old mate Simon Goode has been amassing printing, blocking, typesetting and paper cutting equipment since I’ve known him. I’ve never seen all this stuff in one place at once, but I just hope his ceilings are well supported. He doesn’t just collect this stuff; he utilises it all for his work first and foremost, but he also replaces the bits that don’t work, cleans them, looks after them and makes them part of his printing empire – like inanimate employees that he has hand-picked and trained himself.
I have a few tiny examples of Simon’s work and it’s top notch. His dedication to reviving and restoring the physical skills of book-making and hand-printing is immeasurable and what’s more impressive is that he is more than willing to openly collaborate and experiment with contemporary design principles.
Check out his blog and if you have time have a peek at some of his work examples too. I keep saying this, but I’m definitely still up for working with Simon on a wee home-brewing book. Did you hear that Simon? Book? Remember? Yes? Shall we?
