Japanese Food Recipe Cards

My Tokyo boss-man recently handed me this wonderful pack of recipe cards from the early 1980′s, featuring some charming and delicate treats of the Japanese food variety. I think the pictures speak for themselves in this situation, but it has made me yearn for some of the old cooking books from this era to be republished in all their glory. Those heavy saturated colours, that grubby print stock, the alluring typography and downright audacity of the dishes is a refreshing course of humble pie to any a weary foodie. It says so much about how far our cooking expectations have come in this country and it probably wouldn’t have happened without recipe packs like this.
Yes, there is nothing like a plate of food to bring two nations together and there’s every chance that if you stare at that glistening MSG in hyper contrast for long enough, you might just become hungry enough to try one out as I did with the Miso Salmon – not bad to be honest… Buuuurp.
Big thanks to Johnny T or should I say: ???????????
