Feather Cycles
Vintage handmade cycle frames are pretty high on the luxury list for most people and unless you are serious/rich they are usually only seen flashing past you in East London being piloted by an undeserving tit with pathetic pumps on and hat that makes them look like something from Portland Bill. I usually shirk away from this sort of thing, but I rapidly relented when I came across the work of the Yorkshire-based Feather Cycles.
The Feather workshop was set-up by a young engineer called Ricky who turned his hand to frame-building after a career in factory fabrication became too constrictive. Good job that that he made that decision too because some of his recent frame builds, lugs work, brazes and hand-cut bridges are incredibly detailed and elaborately crafted. There is a refined neatness and effortless talent that comes through in Ricky’s work, which is frankly quite mesmerising considering he has only been at this game for a short time.
His blog is a wee bit sparse with details, but I get the feeling this sort of project work needs a good foundation of background and chat. This is clearly a craftsman who knows his eggs and I’ll be keeping an eye on his output until I can think of something I’ve got that needs brazing together. The Tokyo Fixed Gear shop has also been supporting his work too, so pop in there for a look if you fancy it.
