Belbury Parish Magazine

Jim Jupp is a busy man indeed. As co-founder of the imitable Ghostbox Records label, hanutologist-general and creator of the most excellent Radio Belbury podcast, I can imagine that his free-time is somewhat limited these days. However, he still manages to put together the Belbury Parish Magazine blog, which has become one of my weekly pit stops on the internet. Jim is perhaps better known for his experimental jaunts as one half of Belbury Poly – one of the acts that feature on Ghost Box Records. Alongside Eric Zann they weave together evocative public information-tinged psychedelic electronica and it’s really quite splendid too.

The blog is an interesting porthole into the musical cannon of Belbury Poly and their peers. You can listen to the podcast on the site, which makes for an excellent Wednesday morning mind tonic over a cup of Earl Grey. But there is also the chance to see some of the incredible graphic design work on there that Ghost Box is putting out for their events and releases. Indeed, I was initially attracted to their music by the superb cover art of their 7″s, which conjure up a vintage sub-world of 70′s Britain, vibrating with portals, folklore and state-run acoustic ley lines.

In short, this is brilliant way to stay ahead of Ghost Box’s tireless efforts and there are also some captivating external links listed as ‘Parishioners’ in the right hand menu – I’m still only half way through them.
