Claire Scully
The other afternoon I was scanning the vaults of Outline Editions looking for a print piece to buy as a gift for someone when I came across Claire Scully’s work. The name rang a bell and I still haven’t managed to recall where from, but her distinctive ‘digital collages’ have stuck with me from somewhere.
Claire graduated from Central Saint Martins on the MA Communication Design course and her extensive freelance career has seen her working some big names, including the Guardian and Penguin. It would be rude to pigeon-hole Claire’s multi-discipline work (so I won’t) as it spans many forms and draws on the relationship between our modern surroundings colliding with nature and its many forms – perhaps a reflection of our somewhat confused society the UK today.
I’m really impressed by her beautifully detailed renditions of the animals in her ‘Bejwelled‘ series – instantly reminiscent of the delicate handmade characters from Bagpuss or a perhaps the puffed-up characterture birds we see strolling across a wintry park.
Get yourself over to her site to see more of her work. You’ll also find yourself in awe of the splendour of her rainbow navigation. I was.
